ATP Bangkok (otherwise known as the Thailand Open) is the first event of the Asian autumn indoor swing. It’s been held since 2003 when the ATP decided to try and branch out into Asia and exploit the popularity of Thai tennis star Paradorn Srichaphan.

Held on a fairly fast indoor hard court, the event rewards attacking players and Roger Federer was a regular participant early on in his career, winning the title in 2004 and 2005. Notably, Rafael Nadal has competed in Bangkok several times and has not enjoyed the same level of success.

The Thailand Open reserves a substantial amount of money each year for appearance fees in order to bring top ten players to Bangkok. As a result, the fields are almost always extremely strong with Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga winning the title in recent years.
