ATP Los Cabos tournament schedule

ATP Los Cabos players 2019

Now in its fourth year, the Abierto Mexicano de Tenis Mifel presentado por Cinemex in Los Cabos provides ATP players with the perfect setting to start their U.S. Open Series and fine-tune their preparations before back-to-back Masters 1000 tournaments in Canada and Cincinnati.

Fabio Fognini defeated Juan Martin del Potro in last year’s final and the Italian is back in Los Cabos trying to make it back-to-back titles and as a top 10 player to boot. Fognini famously captured his first Masters 1000 title in Monte-Carlo earlier this season, beating Rafael Nadal along the way, and is the top seed in Los Cabos as he plays his first hardcourt tournament since March after the clay and grass swings.

Argentina’s Guido Pella is the second seed and will be looking to continue his sensational year that has seen him win a ton of matches and rise to a current ranking of No. 24 in the world.

Other seeds that have been in good form throughout the season include Cristian Garin and Taylor Fritz, while former top 10 players Grigor Dimitrov and Ernests Gulbis are unseeded and looking to find their best tennis after tough years.

Also watch out for Juan Ignacio Londero, who has been one of most improved players on tour in 2019, along with 2017 runner-up Thanasi Kokkinakis, who’s career has been plagued by injuries but has received a wildcard into Los Cabos.

About ATP Los Cabos

Los Cabos, located at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula, plays host to the fourth edition of the Abierto de Tenis Mifel presentado por Cinemex, live from July 31 to August 5. Once a remote and rural location, Los Cabos has been transformed into one of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations, with over two million visitors descending on the picturesque coastal region each year.

The Abierto Mexicano is now the second ATP event held in Mexico, following on from February’s immensely popular Abierto Mexicano Telcel tournament - an ATP 500 level event that combines with the WTA Tour as an International level tournament. With a total financial commitment of $858,565, the Abierto Mexicano offers the most prize money in its category of any other tournament in the Americas region.

Ivo Karlovic was the inaugural champion of Los Cabos, defeating fellow big-serving veteran Feliciano Lopez 7-6(5) 6-2 in last year’s final, while Sam Querrey completed the Acapulco/Los Cabos double in 2017 as he defeated the rising Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-3 3-6 6-2. Enigmatic Italian Fabio Fognini is the defending champion after beating Juan Martin del Potro 6-4 6-2 in the 2018 final.
