There were thrills and spills a plenty in a five set thriller where Djokokvic denied Toger Federer the chance of winning a record eighth Wimbledon title. The quality of play hardly dipped as the momentum swung first to Federer's way as he edged the first set tie-break, and then briefly back to the Serbian, who edged the second set to level the match.

The third set saw another tie-break, where this time Djokovic just pushed ahead, and it looked all over in the fourth set as Djokovic had championship point at 5-2 up. But Federer won five games on the trot to push the match into a decider.

With still no dip in the quality, it cam down to who would flinch first. It took just one more match point to give Djokovic a second Wimbledon title.

Semi-Final: Beat Grigor Dimitrov 6-4 3-6 7-6(2) 7-6(7)

Djokovic reached his third Wimbledon final in four years on Friday as he defeated first-time semi-finalist Dimitrov in the first semi-final.

“In the semis of Wimbledon playing a future star, he deserves respect, it was a tough match overall,” said Djokovic, who saved three set points in the fourth set tie-break when he trailed 3-6. “The fourth set could have gone either way. I started well, was up a set and a break, points for double break.

“Dimitrov has quality shots, especially his running forehand, and great touch. He plays equally well when he's aggressive and when he’s defensive. That’s part of his game that he has improved immensely in the past six to eight months. It was a good win for me. I’m really glad to be part of another entertaining match. Now I’m looking forward to the championship match.”

Quarter-final: Beat Marin Cilic 6-1 3-6 6-7(4) 6-2 6-2

Djokovic had to rely on his big-match experience to beat Marin Cilic for a place in the semi-finals. He recovered from a two-sets-to-one deficit by winning 12 of the last 16 games for a 6-1 3-6 6-7(4) 6-2 6-2 victory in three hours and 18 minutes out on Court No. 1

“I played a very bad game, with a couple of bad errors in the second set and the momentum changed for him to get back into the match,” Djokovic told the BBC straight after the match. “He found his rhythm on serve, but I allowed him to step in. It was frustrating for me.”

Round 4: Beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3 6-4 7-6(5)

The Frenchman has seen better form, it has to be said but all eyes were on Djokovic after a heavy fall around mid-way in the third set. Play was stopped immediately and the trainer and doctor were in attendance.

"It was a sharp pain when I fell, an awkward fall," Djokovic told BBC television straight after the match. "I was just hoping there is nothing going on with the joint, luckily there is no damage and I could play.

"The muscle was quite sore with the impact but I am just glad to get through. Now there are two days off and I am going to try and recover.

"I played well though I dropped a couple of service games. It could have gone either way in the third but in the important moments I came up with the right selection of shots."

Round 2: Beat Radek Stepanek 6-4 6-3 6-7(5) 7-6(5)

Djokovic almost had this sewn up at 5-2 in the third set tie-break, but Stepanek battled back to clinch the 67-minute set. The Czech then rallied from 2-5 in the fourth set tie-break, but he hit a forehand volley into the net at 5-5 to gift Djokovic his first match point, closing out the win in three-hours, and 17 minutes.

Round 1: Beat Andrey Golubev 6-0 6-1 6-4

Djokovic allowed Golubev just five games in this confident first round. There had been concern about Djokovic's rediness, especially when he pulled out of The Boodles exhbition event, normally his favourite warm up event. There was no sign of any injury or inhibitions as he explained after the match.

"Was a great start.  Obviously first official match on a grass court season this year.  Coming into Wimbledon with no official matches, it always gives you an extra reason to get that commitment and focus from the start and try to play as best as you can.

"You know, in the third, credit to him coming back, playing some good points.  But generally it was the match that I had control over, and just happy with the performance."
