Top seeded American Williams will take on Anra Sadikovic of Switzerland as she looks to take the first steps to a record-equaling grand slam win here. Williams last competed at the French Open where she reached the final. She was beaten by Spain’s Garbine Muguruza in the grand finale at the Roland Garros.

Sadikovic has come through the qualifiers to make the main draw here. She beat Kai-Chen Chang in straight sets in the final qualifier following wins over Oceane Dodin and Viktorija Golubic in the previous rounds of qualifying.

This will be the first career meeting between these two opponents but the world number one Williams is expected to coast to an easy victoryon Tuesday.

Murray, the second seed and the home favourite here at Wimbledon, will be up against his compatriot Liam Broady with the latter entering the tournament on a wild-card. Murray has had a decent year so far.

Andy Murray will hope to make quick work of his first round match

The Briton beat his arch-enemy Novak Djokovic at the final of the Rome Masters before losing the French Open final to the Serbian. He has had the perfect preparation for The Championships with a title win at the ATP Queen’s where he defeated Milos Raonic in the final.

Broady is coming into this tournament on the backs of a first round exit from the ATP Nottingham last week. He had suffered a first round defeat at the Ilkley Challenger prior to his participation in Nottingham. Murray and Broady have not met before but the former should be able to make his way into the second round.

Ladies’ third seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland will play Ukraine’s Kateryna Kozlova as she begins her campaign here. Radwanska was defeated in the quarterfinal at the WTA Eastbourne by Dominika Cibulkova last week after she had suffered a first round exit from the WTA Birmingham the week before. She had reached the fourth round at the French Open earlier this year where she was downed by Tsvetana Pironkova.

Kozlova had made the quarterfinal at the Ricoh Open following a failure to make the main draw at the French open. However, she was unable to make it to the main draw at the ATP Mallorca a couple of weeks ago.

While Radwanska is not in the kind of form that would cause alarm in her opponents, Kozlova has had a rough time coming into this competition. The Pole should start as the favourite to go through.
