Top seed Djokovic will take on Spain’s Adrian Mannarino in the second round. The Serbian defeated James Ward of England in straight setson Monday. He won the first set without losing a game but survived a scare in the second set as he won the tie-breaker. Djokovic went on to take the third and final set with ease as he secured a 6-0, 7-6(3), 6-4 victory.

The world number one extended his winning run in Grand Slam tournaments to 29 successive victories with the win on Monday after having won the Australian Open and the French Open earlier this year.

Mannarino defeated Britain’s Kyle Edmund 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 in straight sets in the first round here. He last featured at the ATP Nottingham before coming into this tournament. The Briton was defeated by Andreas Seppi of Italy in the third round on the occasion.

Garbine Muguruza will be in second round action on Wednesday

This will be the first career meeting between these two opponents. With Djokovic in prime form, the reigning champion should start as the favourite on Wednesday.

Ladies second seed Muguruza is to play Jana Cepelova. The Spaniard started with a three set win over Camila Giorgi in the first round here after coming into this tournament on the backs of a second round defeat at the WTA Mallorca. She had won the French Open before that by defeating Serena Williams.

Cepelova downed Mariana Duque-Marino in straight sets after having come through the qualifiers here at The Championships. She had been unable to break into the main draw at Roland Garros earlier this year.

Muguruza has won the only previous contest between these two ladies and should start as the favourite to make it two wins out of two.

Third seeded Swiss Roger Federer will be up against Marcus Willis in his second round fixture on Wednesday. The former world number one won in straight sets against Guido Pella in the first round after managing to ace the tie-breakers in the first two sets.

Willis had come through the qualifiers before taking on Ricardas Berankis in the first round of the main draw. Willis managed to beat Berankis 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets on the occasion, setting up a date against Federer in the process.

Although these two have never met before, Federer should start as the favourite to go on and make it into the third round.
