German fourth seed Kerber will open proceedings for the day when she takes on fifth seeded Romanian Simona Halep at the centre court. Kerber is yet to drop a set at the tournament so far. She hardly put a foot wrong in her 6-3, 6-1 win over Misaki Doi in their fourth round clash.

The Australian Open champion had beaten Laura Robson, Varvara Lepchenko and Carina Witthoeft in the first three rounds at the tournament.

Halep has had a great tournament thus far. She has been a consistent performer on the grass court in the past few seasons and seems to be in good form this year. The Romanian started with a win over Anna Schmiedlova in the first round in straight sets and followed it up with similar wins over Francesca Schiavone and Kiki Bertens in the next two rounds.

She survived a scare in the fourth round after Madison Keys had won the first set tie-breaker. However, Halep was quick to recover as she went on to claim the next two sets and the match to enter the quarterfinals.

This will be the fifth career meeting between these two ladies. Four past meetings have yielded three wins for Halep and one win for Kerber. Their last meeting came at the Federation Cup earlier this year when Germany took on Romania. Kerber came out victorious on that occasion, winning in straight sets.

Top seed Williams from the United States of America will be up against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia in her quarterfinal fixture at the centre court.

Williams eased past Svetlana Kuznetsova in the second set of their round of 16 fixture after managing to edge an interesting first set. She won the contest 7-5, 6-0 after having defeated Amra Sadikovic, Christina McHale and Annika Beck in the first three rounds. The only time that she has really been tested at The Championships this year was when she took on McHale in the second round.

21st seed Pavlyuchenkova downed Coco Vandeweghe in straight sets in their fourth round clash 6-3, 6-3. The Russian had defeated Su Wei-Hsieh, Yulia Putintseva and Timea Bacsinszky on her way to the quarterfinal.

The world number one has an unbeaten record against Pavlyuchenkova. They have met five times in the past, most recently at the Rome Masters earlier this year, and Williams has had it easy on four out of the five occasions.
