Top seeded American Williams will be up against Russia’s Elena Vesnina in her semi-final fixture. Williams defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets in the quarterfinal to make it into the semis.

The world number one has had a fantastic tournament so far. She beat Amra Sadikovic in straight sets in the first round here and went up against Christina McHale in the second round. It was the only occasion in which Williams was tested to the limit in these past couple of weeks. She eased past Annika Beck and Svetlana Kuznetsova in the third and fourth rounds.

Vesinina has had a roller coaster of a tournament so far. She beat Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets in her quarterfinal fixture to set up this semi-final clash against Williams. Earlier in the tournament, she had defeated Tamira Paszek, Andrea Petkovic, Julia Boserup and Ekaterina Makarova in the first four rounds. She has dropped just one set at The Championships this year when she lost the first set to Makarova in her round of 16 clash.

This will be the fifth career meeting between these two opponents. Williams has a 100 percent win record against Vesnina and will go into this one as the hot favorite.

Fourth seeded German Kerber, who won the Australian Open earlier this year, will go up against the senior of the two Williams sisters, Venus Williams in their semi-final clash.

Kerber defeated Simona Halep in a well-contested quarterfinal clash in straight sets on Tuesday. She edged out the Romanian 7-5, 7-6(5) in order to make it through to the semis.

The German is yet to drop a set at Wimbledon this year. She had started with a win over Laura Robson in the first round and followed it up with victories over Varvara Lepchenko, Carina Witthoeft, and Misaki Doi in the second, third and fourth rounds.

Venus downed Yaroslava Shvedova in straight sets in her quarterfinal fixture after having downed Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain in a feisty round of 16 clash. She will be immensely happy to have made it into the last four here after her recent struggles with form. Venus had defeated Donna Vekic, Maria Sakkari and Daria Kasatkina earlier in the tournament and she has had to fight for her victories.

These two ladies have met in five previous occasions with Kerber having a 3-2 edge in the overall head-to-heads going into this one. The German starts as the favourite to make it into the final on Saturday.
