Seventeen-time major champion Nadal and Mery Perello (also known as Xisca) has been together for 14 years and according to Hello! Magazine, the couple got engaged back in May last year when Nadal popped the question in Rome.

The pair have been keeping the news secret over the last eight months. Xisca, 30, is an insurance worker and has a degree in business, while she also works as a project director for the Rafa Nadal Foundation, the charity her future husband established a decade ago.

Nadal and Xisca are thought to be tying the knot this autumn in Mallorca.

The 32-year-old Nadal has previously spoken of his desire to start a family with his long-time girlfriend.

“Obviously, I have the intention of forming a family. I love children and I would like my children to do what they like,” he said.

Xisca hasn’t always travelled with Nadal to every tournament he plays, and although she was present most recently at the Australian Open in Melbourne, where Nadal finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic, she says the pair benefit from time apart on the road.

“He needs his space when he is competing and just the idea of me hanging around and waiting on his needs all day tires me out,” she said.
“It would asphyxiate me. And then he would have to be worrying about me.
“If I followed him everywhere I think there’s a risk we might stop getting along.”

The news follows a comical on-court interview between Nadal and Jim Courier at the Australian Open last month.

Nadal famously made headlines back in 2017 when he said Xisca had finally earned a ‘wildcard’ to come to Australia with him for the first time.

“After 10 years finally, my girlfriend gets a wildcard to come here,” he said as the crowd erupted with laughter.

Nadal rekindled the joke in 2019, but revealed Xisca had earned a promotion of sorts!

“As I say to you a couple of years ago, in 2017, it was the first time she was able to be here. She received the wildcard in that moment,” he told Courier.
“Now after 14 years together she doesn’t need wildcards at all. She’s coming wherever she wants. That’s how it works.”
