Not many sports can boast a calendar as action-packed as tennis, nor can they provide the same level of (almost) year-round excitement. From the scorching Australian summer which dominates January to the season-ending ATP and WTA Finals in exotic Singapore and chilly London which round off October and November, the men and women of tennis - among them some of the biggest stars of global sport, period - travel the world for eleven months of the year, battling for ranking points, prize money and above all for glory.

The tennis calendar is punctuated by the four Grand Slams: The sun-soaked Australian Open, the 'Happy Slam', where tennis titans do battle late into the balmy night; Roland Garros, the French Open, where Rafael Nadal rules supreme in the heart of Paris; Wimbledon in early July, where tradition frames an intense combat taking place on tranquil London lawns; and the raucous US Open, where tennis grabs the attention of the busiest city on the planet, New York, for one fortnight in late summer.

But there's much more to tennis than these four showcase events: There's an entire ATP World Tour and WTA Tour spanning the globe from late December to the very end of November. Starting in Asia-Pacific, with events in the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, India and China leading up to the Australian Open, the ATP World Tour heads to indoor hard courts in Europe and the 'Golden Swing' on the clay courts of Latin America while the WTA Tour shine indoors in Russia and outdoor in Asia, Doha and Dubai in February. In March, ATP and WTA reunite in the Californian desert for Indian Wells, the first of nine Masters 1000 Series events for the men and four Premier Mandatory events for the women, before moving right on to Florida for the second in the spring double-bill of mega tennis extravaganzas, the Miami Open.

Next comes clay, with the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters and the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart shining particularly bright amidst a flurry of red-clay tournaments hosted in cities like Barcelona, Prague and Istanbul, before May brings another double bill of Masters 1000 Series events for the men and major Premier events for the women: The Mutua Madrid Open, hosted at the Caja Magica, and the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, played at Rome's iconic Foro Italico.

After the clay season climaxes at Roland Garros, it's all about grass, with just three short weeks before Wimbledon seeing the world's best take to the lawns of the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain to tune up their games for tennis's most historic and prestigious event.

A brief return to European clay after Wimbledon lets everybody catch their breath and then it's off to the hard courts of North America in late July and August, with tournaments in Atlanta, California and Washington, D.C. leading up to the Rogers Cup - played simultaneously in Toronto and Montreal - and the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, the last key battleground before the US Open.

The year's four Grand Slams may be over by September, but there's still plenty to play for as the focus switches to the battle to qualify for the elite season-ending championships, with the ATP World Tour and WTA Tour's stars shining in events all over Asia including in Tokyo, Wuhan, Beijing and Shanghai. The WTA Tour season comes to its conclusion in late October/early November with year-end championships in Singapore and Zhuhai while the ATP World Tour takes their battle to European indoor hard courts in Basel, Vienna and Paris. The best of the young generation battle at the globe-trotting Next Gen ATP Finals, to be held in New York, while the sport's biggest male stars face off in a round-robin, no-holds-barred competition that brings the season to a resounding close at London's ATP Finals.
