A rematch of the 2014 Wimbledon final headlines another jam-packed day of tennis at the WTA Connecticut Open. No. 6 seed Petra Kvitova faces Eugenie Bouchard at 7pm local time (12am BST!)

Petra Kvitova vs Eugenie Bouchard is live from the Connecticut Open at 7pm local time (12pm BST)

She may be seeded no. 6, but Petra Kvitova is capable of a far superior level to her current ranking of world no. 15. A former world no. 2, the lethal Czech lefty can blow almost any woman off the court on her day – and her current rank does not reflect a bronze medal won at the recent Rio Olympic Games. A two-time Wimbledon winner, Kvitova – who enters the New Haven second round off a 1-6 6-1 6-3 defeat of rising star and crowd favourite Louisa Chirico – should not be underestimated.

The most recent of those Wimbledon victories came over her forthcoming opponent, Eugenie Bouchard, two years ago. The 6-3 6-0 drubbing of the then-20-year-old came in just 55 minutes, and the former teenage superstar has failed to accomplish anything of note since. Her game-plans being sussed out and her self-confidence deteriorating, the Canadian has endured a ghastly two seasons of few wins, embarrassing losses, and little glimpses of the woman who once made it to world no. 5. Nevertheless, the 22-year-old wild card – who made the Wimbledon third round a few weeks ago – stormed to a 6-2 6-1 dismissal of qualifier Annika Beck in her first New Haven match, and therefore comes to face Petra Kvitova in decent form. The more experienced player by some distance, Kvitova holds a thumping 3-0 advantage over Bouchard in their rivalry, and has never surrendered more than four games in a set to the world no. 40. Nevertheless, the duo have not clashed since 2014. If the erratic side of Petra Kvitova comes to the party, then we could have more than a match on our hands in this final singles match of the day on Stadium court.

Other singles duels to keep an eye on include former prodigy Caroline Garcia's clash with the dangerous Kirsten Flipkens – whose craft and skill proved too much for Venus Williams at the Olympics, and Belinda Bencic here in New Haven – and no. 2 seed Roberta Vinci's collision with Ana Konjuh. Often injured and ranked below her potential, 18-year-old Croat Konjuh held match points against Agnieszka Radwanska at Wimbledon, but slipped on a ball and rolled her ankle – finishing the match in tears, and exiting as the losing player. Now ranked world no. 100, the stockily-built youngster has since lost in the second round of the Olympics and in qualifying for Cincinnati. But if she is striking her marks, she should be able to at least trouble, and at most beat, 2015 US Open finalist Roberta Vinci. The Italian has done well to remain solidly inside the world's top ten, but has been becoming less and less of a threat on tour in recent times. A first round Olympic loser, the world no. 8 has suffered defeat in four of her last eight matches. Is an upset on the cards here in New Haven?
