ATP Los Cabos tournament schedule

Who is playing ATP Los Cabos in 2018?

Another solid field has converged in Los Cabos, Mexico for the third edition of the Abierto de Tenis Mifel presentado por Cinemex as some of the leading men on the ATP World Tour launch their U.S. Open Series.

Leading the field is World No. 4 Juan Martin del Potro, with the former U.S. Open champion the top seed in Los Cabos as he looks to complete the ‘Mexico Double’ after securing the ATP 500 Abierto Mexicano Telcel title in Acapulco back in February.

Del Potro has been one of the more consistent ATP performers over the last two years since his successful comeback from multiple wrist surgeries and has to be considered one of the favourites for the U.S. Open title at the end of the summer.

One man who knows all about completing Mexican doubles is defending champion Sam Querrey, with the American also winning the Acapulco crown in 2017. Querrey hasn’t had the best 2018 so far, but he was one of the best players throughout the U.S. Open Series last year and typically loves this stage of the season - could he bounce back this week?

Recent Bastad champion Fabio Fognini - who is close to his career-high ranking at No. 14 - makes the transition from clay to hardcourts to begin his U.S. Open preparations and is always someone to keep an eye on, while inaugural champion Ivo Karlovic and former runner-up Feliciano Lopez will also fancy their chances of going deep in Los Cabos once again.

With the likes of Damir Dzumhur, Thanasi Kokkinakis (last year’s runner-up), Gilles Muller, Adrian Mannarino, Bernard Tomic and Taylor Fritz also in the draw, it promises to be an entertaining week as the Abierto de Tenis Mifel presentado por Cinemex gets underway in Los Cabos from July 30.

About ATP Los Cabos

Los Cabos, located at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula, plays host to the third edition of the Abierto de Tenis Mifel presentado por Cinemex, live from July 31 to August 5. Once a remote and rural location, Los Cabos has been transformed into one of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations, with over two million visitors descending on the picturesque coastal region each year.

The Abierto Mexicano is now the second ATP event held in Mexico, following on from February’s immensely popular Abierto Mexicano Telcel tournament - an ATP 500 level event that combines with the WTA Tour as an International level tournament. With a total financial commitment of almost US$800,000, the Abierto Mexicano offers the most prize money in its category of any other tournament in the Americas region.

Ivo Karlovic was the inaugural champion of Los Cabos, defeating fellow big-serving veteran Feliciano Lopez 7-6(5) 6-2 in last year’s final, while Sam Querrey completed the Acapulco/Los Cabos double in 2017 as he defeated the rising Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-3 3-6 6-2.
