Come the start of June and the tennis calendar is at its most frantic. No sooner has the French Open champion been crowned, then the grass court season kicks off and the tour heads to the smooth lawns of Queen’s Club for the historic Aegon Championships.
 
Pimms, strawberries, serve-volley tennis and alas rain. That’s what we’ve come to expect from the second most prominent grass-court event on the calendar but not even the ever temperamental British weather can dampen this fantastic week of tennis which sets the pulse racing ahead of tennis’ return to its spiritual home of Wimbledon.
 
Since its inception back in 1979, the Queen's Club honours board has been graced by some of the greatest players of all time and it has gained a reputation as the best possible way to prepare for the important events to come at the All England Club. Six players have completed the famous Queen's-Wimbledon double, including John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Boris Becker, Pete Sampras, Lleyton Hewitt and Rafael Nadal.

Becker, McEnroe, Hewitt and Andy Roddick all form an exalted list of the only players to have won the title four times. Roddick has particularly fond memories of the tournament after equaling the world serve speed record on the way to his first title back in 2003. The American once described it as having ‘the best grass courts in the world.’
