How to Watch Live
Unibet Live Streaming is free of charge. You do however need to be a registered customer, logged in and with a funded account to watch the streaming due to geographical rights on certain events in their live streaming calendar. Should your balance be down to zero you would still be able to watch the streaming if you have placed a bet within the last 24 hours.
Unibet are a Swedish-owned company who were founded in 1997 and now claim to have over 2.5 million customers in over 100 countries. In 1998, the company were granted a license in the UK to run a betting operation and started taking bets over the telephone. A year later, Unibet had a website running in Swedish and English, which reflects their customer base.
Indeed, although their registered office is based in Malta, Scandinavia is the true stronghold for Unibet right now, who are a major player in Sweden and Denmark. They are one of the largest privately owned bookmakers in Europe and are listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.
You can’t accuse Unibet of exaggerating their number of sports markets, and they deserve top marks for listing how many are available on each sport. At the time of writing, there is barely any football taking place, so they also deserve credit for having over 1,000 markets available on this sport. How is this possible? Simply because they are on a mission to cover every league in Europe, including countries like Iceland and Slovakia. Naturally, they are very in-depth when it comes to Sweden.
In addition to football, they cover every other sport that you would expect from a big European bookmaker. Don’t expect any horse racing markets or odds in a hurry, but they are big on tennis, golf and ice hockey. Their odds are generally quite competitive, especially on Premier League football where they try to gain an edge on their better-known rivals. As you might expect, they bet to a much larger margin on their In-Play markets.
Coverage & Availability
In some cases, Unibet is not permitted to stream certain events to the host country, so they use your IP address together with your account address to present you only with the events they are allowed to show you.
To receive the best picture quality possible (bit rates of 500k), you should make sure to have a a decent broadband connection. That way you can even watch more than one match at the same time.
The colour scheme of green and white works nicely, although the homepage is a little scruffy, with the ‘My Account’ section and the bet slip hanging over the border. There also seems to be little need for the flash graphic in the middle of the page, especially with the main events featured underneath anyway.
Unibet’s flash In-Play console takes a short while to load, although it’s a very compact little number, with the current events listed in the left-hand menu and a calendar neatly illustrating the live events on the horizon. Our main criticism would be that you can’t see how much of a match has elapsed and how long is left, which is obviously important if you can’t see live pictures somewhere.
This company tends to go down the traditional route when it comes to website layout, with the sports listed in a left-hand menu, with each category collapsing to show how many markets are available. Placing a bet is seamless, while their bet slip functionality is top of the range.
Where is the ‘contact us’ link? It takes some hunting around to find, and then it’s not clear exactly when they are available to take your call or respond to your email. However, after a little more digging, it seems they offer round-the-clock support in all languages, while they also have a freephone number devoted to UK customers – which is nice. Expect a delayed response when emailing Unibet outside of office hours but generally a very efficient and polite level of service.
