The XXV Italiacom Open semi-finals are scheduled to take place today, and we should be in for some entertaining tennis on the red dirt of Palermo. French Open runner-up Sara Errani remains on course for the title, though she’s still got a lot to do before she can lift what would be her fourth WTA winner’s trophy of the season.
The first semi-final will be between Barbora Zahlavova Strycova and Laura Robson. Robson progressed to the first WTA quarter-final of her career here in Palermo, and then went on to reach a maiden semi-final as well by beating Roberta Vinci, and then Carla Suarez Navarro. Zahlavova Strycova has also recorded some great results en route to the final. She beat third seed Julia Goerges in the last eight.
The second semi-final sees Errani pitted against Irina-Camelia Begu. Errani’s clay court form has taken her inside the top ten for the first time in her career, and her confidence right now should be sky-high. Begu, meanwhile, hasn’t been playing particularly well this year, but is enjoying something of a resurgence in Palermo.
