The WTA Miami draw has been released and Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka could face each other in the semi-finals.
Sharapova is the favourite for the Miami title but she has a tricky draw. In the third round she could face in-form compatriot Elena Vesnina who won her first WTA title earlier this year and picked up the doubles crown in Indian Wells. And then in the last sixteen, she's likely to have a rematch with Maria Kirilenko after beating her childhood friend in the semis in California. And if Sharapova reaches the last four again this fortnight, she may play Australian Open champion Azarenka although the Belarussian is currently struggling with an ankle injury.
Serena Williams is back for Miami after her customary Indian Wells boycott. The American hasn't won this title for a few years now and she'll be keen to end that drought. She begins against either Flavia Pennetta or Johanna Larsson in round two and could be set for a fourth round clash with in-form Slovak Dominika Cibulkova. But more intriguingly, Serena could play Indian Wells finalist Caroline Wozniacki (who beat her at that stage last year in Miami) in the quarters providing Wozniacki can overcome Li Na in the last sixteen.
Venus Williams could face rising star Sloane Stephens in round three the pick of the potential early round clashes with the winner likely to face defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska. The Pole was very disappointed to lose to Kirilenko in the last sixteen in Indian Wells and she'll be hoping to make up for it this week. She may face Dubai champion Petra Kvitova in the last eight.
If Azarenka pulls out or suffers an early defeat due to her ankle, that could open things up for Angelique Kerber who got back to winning ways in Indian Wells, reaching the semis last week.
