There are four players left at the Moorilla Hobart International, leaving us with two days more of action before a champion is crowned. On Friday Sloane Stephens will take on Elena Vesnina, and Kirsten Flipkens will be pitted against Mona Barthel.
The first semi-final should be an intriguing one. Vesnina has underperformed in the past few years and she’ll need to dig deep to get the better of Stephens, who is one of the game’s hottest young talents. Stephens has been in great form recently and could be set for a breakthrough season.
The match between Flipkens and Barthel could also be a thriller. After dropping off of the radar for a while, Flipkens was resurgent in 2012, finishing the season strongly. She also won her first ever WTA title. The Belgian has a difficult task ahead of her on Friday. Barthel is an accomplished hardcourt player who can trouble pretty much anyone.
