Following a memorable week in Cincinnati we’re left with four competitors in the 2012 Western and Southern Open. The semi-finals will begin today and it looks like we’re in for a fascinating finale.
The first WTA semi-final to take place on Centre Court here in Mason, Ohio will be Venus Williams versus Na Li. Venus has performed incredibly so far and seems to be gradually improving this season. She’s still being held back by Sjogren’s syndrome, but remarkably can still beat top ten players. She faces a tall order against Li. The former French Open winner has played well this week and brought her A-game yesterday, which led to two convincing wins.
The day’s action will conclude with a meeting between Petra Kvitova and Angelique Kerber. Kvitova seems full of confidence, which is hardly surprising following her triumph at the Rogers Cup last week. That said, Kerber could be the player to end her winning streak. The German stunned the home crowd last night by clinching a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Serena Williams.
