Officially known as the Copa BBVA Colsanitas, the outdoor clay court tournament will be held at the Club Campestre El Rancho in Colombia’s capital city. Total prize money is $235,000, and the champion will receive 280 ranking points.
Hispanic players have dominated in Bogota over the years. Paulo Suarez won the inaugural event in 1998, while Fabiola Zuluaga thrilled the home fans by winning the trophy a record four times. Spain’s Lourdes Dominguez Lino was triumphant in 2006 and 2011, and her compatriot Lara Arruabarrena Vecino won the first title of her career in Bogota last year.
Although the majority of the WTA’s top players will be competing in the concurrent event in Dubai, the Copa BBVA Colsanitas has still attracted a strong field in 2013. Former world number one Jelena Jankovic will be the top seed, and will be joined by Alize Cornet and the 2010 French Open champion, Francesca Schiavone.
The first WTA clay court event of the year is set to provide a week of entertaining tennis, as well as a first chance to see which players could make a serious impact on the dirt this season. Tune into bet 365’s live online streaming to watch the action from Bogota.
