Petra Cetkovska will take on Mathilde Johansson in the quarter-finals of the 2012 WTA Fes Open
Petra Cetkovska continued her WTA Fes campaign in style on Wednesday, seeing off the challenge of Timea Bacsinszky in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. The Czech is seeded third this week, and following the withdrawal of Svetlana Kuznetsova due to a left thigh injury, she seems to be in with a big chance of securing a first career WTA title.
She’ll take on Mathilde Johansson of France for a place in the final four. Johansson, who entered this tournament with a disastrous 0-10 match record for 2012, has been in surprisingly good form here. She booked her place in the quarter-finals with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over eighth seed Shahar Peer.
“The match went great. It was tough, and she made it difficult in the first set but then I began to fight back,” said Johansson after her win. “My serve was working well and I was hitting my forehand much better than in my other matches here so I hope I can continue this for the rest of the week.”
Johansson won her last meeting with Cetkovska, though the pairing have a 1-1 head to head record. On the one occasion where they met on clay, Cetkovska cruised to a one-sided victory. We can expect the Czech to have the upper hand again on Thursday.
