Marion Bartoli enters this year’s WTA New Haven Open as the fifth seed, and she’ll be hoping to sharpen up her hardcourt game in time for a title challenge at the upcoming US Open. The Frenchwoman’s results have been a little inconsistent at times this season, but on the whole she’s still in good form and looking capable of picking up WTA titles.
Bartoli’s first opponent at the New Haven Open at Yale will be British wildcard Laura Robson. Robson has been Britain’s most talked about tennis prospect for a long time now, and she’s showing signs of fulfilling her potential. She won a silver medal at the Olympics when teamed with Andy Murray in the mixed doubles, and should be feeling more and more at ease about competing against top quality players such as Bartoli.
This will be the first competitive meeting between Bartoli and Robson. The world No. 11 has got to be regarded as the favourite, but it’s clear that she could be in for a stern test. Robson is growing in confidence and should be looking forward to the opportunity to test herself against one of the WTA’s best.
