Andrea Petkovic will hope to cap off her return to the WTA Top 10 with a shot at the impressive gilded trophy on display when she tackles Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in the BNP Paribas Fortis Diamond Games in WTA Antwerp.
First into the semi-final berth was the Czech who had to overcome some worrying breathing problems while a set and a break up on Mona Barthel, who had put out top seed Eugenie Bouchard in the previous round, beating the German 6-2 6-2.
She had a medical timeout, but opted to continue, keeping the momentum on her side and continues a promising start to the year, having made semi-final in Auckland and the quarter-finals in Sydney at the start of the year before coming up against an inspired and dangerous unseeded Victoria Azarenka in the third round of the Australian Open.

That being said, the ultimate comeback is close to being sealed by Petkovic, who had endured a couple of years of horrific and potentially career threatening injuries before having her second best career to date last year, finishing No. 14. Now back in the Top 10 for the first time since 2011, this will more than make up for a fatigued end to last year, and a slow start to this year, not having won back to back tour matches until this week.
Zahlavova Strycova has an aggressive style of play and is solid off the ground and with her serve but can lack tactical smarts sometimes. Petkovic is a little more thoughtful to her game but she wears her heart on her sleeve and those emotions can sometimes take over. With her confidence up, she could frustrate the Czech enough to put an extra shine to her week.
Petkovic and Zahlavova Strycova are scheduled on Centre Court, not before 8pm (7pm GMT).
