Kaia Kanepi appears to be a major force on the WTA tour this year, and she’s already managed to win two titles this season. The Estonian possesses a very effective power game, which has helped her to climb to No. 25 in the world rankings. She currently holds an impressive 13-5 match record for 2012, and will begin at the Brussels Open on Tuesday with a first round clash against Irina Falconi.
Falconi hasn’t enjoyed the same kind of success, and her 10-16 record for the season leaves her outside of the top hundred. The 22-year-old has a great deal of potential, though she’ll have to pick up the pace to establish herself as one of the top players in the game.
This will be the first ever competitive meeting between Kanepi and Falconi. The popular opinion is that Kanepi will prevail, and this is hard to argue with. Falconi is struggling for form right now, whilst Kanepi looks like a formidable opponent. It looks like the Estonian should be able to book a place in round two with a straight sets win.
