The Pattaya Open is a very popular tournament with the players, giving them the chance to escape the freezing temperatures found in most of Europe at this time of the year. In contrast, they get to escape to a tropical paradise with a tournament location virtually right on the beach.
Hantuchova certainly loved the conditions last year, beating top seed (and two-time champion) Vera Zvonareva on the way to the title. The fast conditions certainly suit the Slovak's aggressive game.
Hantuchova may be ranked 20 in the world but these days she's rarely in contention in the majors and she lost in the third round of the Australian Open to Kim Clijsters. After a successful weekend of Fed Cup action in which she helped her country to a tough win over France she was straight on a round the world flight to Pattaya City, overcoming jetlag to beat wildcard Nungnadda Wannasuk 6-2, 6-0.
Radwanska will be a tougher prospect. She's the younger, less successful sister of world number six Agnieszka, reaching number one in the world in the juniors but she's yet to come close to making the top 50 on the main tour.
Hantuchova's played her just once before, winning 6-3, 6-1 in Warsaw three years ago.
