Top seeded Novak Djokovic will take on Czech Radek Stepanek in his third round match at Wimbledon 2012 on Friday.
Djokovic hasn’t had too many difficulties in the two rounds he has won at the Championships so far. After demolishing Juan Carlos Ferrero in the opening match, he dropped four games in each of the three sets to defeat Ryan Harrison.
Not that the world number 27 Stepanek has had any problems either. After his first round opponent, Sergiy Stakhovsky retired from their match, Stepanek beat Benjamin Becker in straight sets to make it to the third round of the competition.
Having crashed out in the first round at the French Open, this is an improvement for the Czech player but he might find it difficult against the top-seeded Djokovic. The Serbian did not participate in any warm-up tournaments on grass leading up to Wimbledon but will hope to make short work of his opponent in a bid to win two Wimbledon titles in a row.
Djokovic and Stepanek have played each other seven times before this since 2006. Barring one defeat way back in 2006, Djokovic has won all the remaining matches including wins on clay, hard court, indoor hard court and carpet. This is the first time they will meet on grass.
The Novak Djokovic v Radek Stepanek match is the first at the Centre Court and begins at 1 pm local time.
