Eighth seeded Janko Tipsarevic will take on 26th seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny in the third round at Wimbledon 2012 on Friday.
Tipsarevic came into this year’s Wimbledon with two successive first round exits here in 2010 and 2011. A third round entry is a definite improvement for him but he will hope to emulate his previous best at Wimbledon, a fourth round place in 2007 and 2008.
The Serbian, who had crashed out in the second round at London last week, needed four sets to defeat Ryan Sweeting in his previous round. He dropped the first set before winning 5-7 7-5 6-4 6-2. Earlier, the Serbian eighth seed beat David Nalbandian in the first round of the competition in straight sets.
Youzhny’s start to the tournament has been a decent one. He lost the opening set in the opening round to Donald Young but since then has not lost more than four games in any of the ensuing six sets.
It is an interesting head-to-head between the two players, with both having won two matches apiece. Youzhny and Tipsarevic have played twice on hard court and shared the wins and on two other occasions they have met on indoor hard court and again, their record is 1-1 on it. It should make for an exciting third round encounter.
The Mikhail Youzhny v Janko Tipsarevic match is the match at the Court No. 2 to begin at 11.30 am.
