Agnieszka Radwanska will enter this year’s Wimbledon with aspirations of living up to her seeding and making a career-best run in the grass slam. Whilst the Pole has made it through to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon once before, she’s never progressed beyond the last eight here, or indeed in any other slam competition.
Radwanska has so far been having the best season of her career, and she’s amassed a superb 38-9 match record for 2012. She should be feeling pretty confident ahead of her first clash at the All-England Club, which will be against Slovakian world No. 122 Magdalena Rybarikova.
This will be the fourth competitive meeting between Radwanska and Rybarikova, following three contests between 2005-2009. Radwanska won the most recent of these matches, and holds a 2-1 record against the Slovakian overall.
It’s fair to say that Radwanska hasn’t fulfilled her potential in slam events in recent years, but the early rounds are rarely a problem for the world No. 3. She should be able to sail through on Monday, most likely in straight sets.
