With the US Open set to begin on the 27th of August this year, tennis fans will be looking forward to the thrills and spills of the final slam of the season. As one of the four biggest events in world tennis, the US Open is guaranteed to provide non-stop entertainment right up to the finish.
Novak Djokovic will be defending his crown this year following another successful season. The Serb is no longer the world No. 1, so he should be keen to reassert himself as the dominant force in the men’s game. New No. 1 Roger Federer will be competing too, as will Rafael Nadal provided that his injury problems don’t plague him again. Wimbledon runner-up Andy Murray may also fancy his chances here.
Samantha Stosur will be aiming to retain the women’s title amidst a top quality field. Last year’s runner-up Serena Williams will be seeking glory, as will three-time winner Kim Clijsters, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Na Li, Agnieszka Radwanska, Petra Kvitova and Angelique Kerber. This is likely to be Clijsters’ last slam. Hopefully the Belgian’s last swansong will be truly memorable.
As ever we’ll be keeping you updated with news and match previews for what promises to be one of the most thrilling slam events of recent years, perhaps of all time. The main draw for both the men and women could hardly be stronger.
