The second round of the WTA Doha Open begins on Wednesday, with several of the biggest names in tennis in action
Play will begin on Wednesday with Na Li up against Klara Zakopalova. Given her recent form, Li will enter the match as the favourite, though Zakopalova holds a 1-0 head to head lead over the No. 4 seed. Li has made a superb start to the season, but might have to produce a top quality performance to guarantee her place in the quarter-finals.
No. 3 seed Francesca Schiavone will also be on court here. The French Open champion will face Chinese qualifier Shuai Peng. Peng is ranked within the top fifty, and on current form won't be needing to qualify for many more events this season. Peng won the last match between the pairing, though Schiavone enters the match as the favourite. This could be a very intriguing contest.
World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki begins her Qatar Ladies Open campaign against Nadia Petrova. Petrova, the world No. 22, has struggled against Wozniacki in the past, and is on a three-match losing streak against the Dane. All three of these defeats occurred last season. Wozniacki is in top form following her title success in Dubai, and should be able to make it four in a row against Petrova on Wednesday.
Vera Zvonareva is also worth keeping an eye on this week. The No. 2 seed will begin here against Dominika Cibulkova, who edged past Jarmila Groth in round one. Cibulkova was pushed into a third set tie-breaker against Groth, and may be a little fatigued entering this contest. Zvonareva could be a major contender this week, and seems to have every chance of reaching the quarter-finals.
