Kim Clijsters leads the futures market for the first event of the 2010 WTA tour.
WTA Brisban features a few top stars and Kim Clijsters leads the futures market for the event.
The tournament starts on January 3rd and Stan James have beaten everyone to the punch with the odds. Here are the favorites followed by our recommendation (all odds Stan James):
1. Kim Clijsters, +137 (about 7/5)
2. Justine Henin, +200 (2/1)
3. Ana Ivanovic, +600 (6/1)
4. Nadia Petrova, +600 (6/1)
5. Daniela Hantuchova, +1600 (16/1)
The tournament is noteworthy, not just because it kicks off the new season, but because Justine Henin is in the field and back competing for tour ranking points.
Serious contenders for the title only appear to go 4 deep and we are going to side with Clijsters here, the US Open champion.
Ivanovic was not on top form to close out 2009 and Petrova really dipped in the rankings as well so we're not tipping either of them as potential winners.
Justine Henin's reputation is obviously preceding herself at this event as we can't be certain that there is value at +200 (2/1). Generally players back in their first event after an extended break are not great picks in the futures market, especially at short odds.
Clijsters does not have long odds so this field cannot be two-bet but she appears to be the only pick worth risking.
If you are the betting type that only works with long odds then we recommend the smallest sprinkles on Aleksandra Wozniak (+2500) and up-and-coming star Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (+6600) as those players do have potential.
