Nadal and Djokovic take to the court for a blockbuster final at the Sony Ericsson Open on Sunday. Both players were in sensational form in the semi-finals, Djokovic coasting past Mardy Fish 6-3, 6-1 and Nadal outplaying Roger Federer 6-3, 6-2.
They met a fortnight ago in the Indian Wells final which Djokovic claimed 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, hitting back strongly after losing a hard-fought opening set before outplaying Nadal in the next two.
“I felt I had a chance last week in Indian Wells,” Nadal reflected. “I lost a little bit the focus and the rhythm in the second set, the intensity of the legs and of the shots, so I started to play a little bit more defensive. Against a player like Novak, it’s impossible to win the match playing like this.”
Djokovic is aiming to join an exalted list of players who have managed the Indian Wells-Miami double. The last man to do it was Federer who achieved the feat in 2005 and 2006.
Djokovic is going for his second Miami title having first won the tournament back in 2007. He also finished runner-up two years ago, losing to Andy Murray in straight sets.
