Marin Cilic begins his quest for a third straight Zagreb title against Russia's Igor Kunitsyn.
Cilic had a dismal end to 2010 and did not enjoy the most auspicious of starts to the new season, crashing out in the first round of the Chennai Open. However he got back on track in Australia, making the fourth round in Melbourne and he will be hoping for some inspiration this week in his home event.
Cilic partnered childhood hero Goran Ivanisevic in the doubles and although they lost in round one it was a good workout for the top seed ahead of this second round singles clash.
Kunitsyn lies 75 places below Cilic in the rankings at 95. He has enjoyed a reasonably solid start to the year, winning a round in Melbourne and progressing through his first match here in straight sets. However there is little to suggest he can trouble the top seed.
Cilic won their only previous match 6-2, 6-4 in Chennai last year and is confident of a repeat. "He’s a solid player but more or less it depends on me as to what will happen tomorrow," he said. "The Australian Open was my new beginning. I feel good and I hope my form will get better and better."
