Kei Nishikori will begin his ATP Paris Masters campaign on Tuesday with a first round matchup against Sergiy Stakhovsky of the Ukraine. The 21 year-old enters this tournament off of the back of a superb week in Basel, in which he reached the final, only to be dismissed in two quick sets by the world No. 4.
Nishikori should be feeling confident ahead of this week’s competition, as he’s rapidly ascended the ATP World Rankings over the course of the year. His 36-21 match record for the season is amongst the best in the ATP, and he’s finally starting to fulfill his indisputable potential.
Nishikori was beaten in four sets by Stakhovsky in the French Open this year, and he’ll be doing his utmost to avenge this loss. Stakhovsky had lost four matches in a row prior to qualifying for this event, and on current form he’ll struggle here. Nishikori should be capable of winning this one, and setting up a matchup with fifteenth seed Viktor Troicki.
