Janko Tipsarevic enters this year’s ATP Paris Masters as the eleventh seed, and he’ll be aiming to upset the odds in order to secure an unlikely qualification for the ATP World Tour Finals. The Serb will need to win this tournament outright to qualify, and his big task will begin on Wednesday with a second round clash against Alex Bogomolov.
Tipsarevic has been playing well in recent months, winning titles in Kuala Lumpur and Moscow, as well as reaching the final in St. Petersburg. He had to withdraw in the first round in Basel though, and this has hampered his assault on the top eight. He’s not one of the favourites this week, but it will be worth keeping an eye on his progress of he can get through the early rounds unscathed.
His meeting with Bogomolov won’t necessarily be an easy one, but he seems likely to have the edge. After thrashing the American 6-2, 6-1 in St. Petersburg, Tipsarevic is a worthy favourite. Bogomolov will no doubt be keen to make amends for this poor result, but it would be a surprise to see him cause an upset.
