Caroline Wozniacki’s WTA Championships campaign hangs in the balance at the moment, after she was edged out by Vera Zvonareva on Wednesday in a close three-setter. The Dane lost the first set, but refused to go down without a fight. Eventually, Zvonareva managed to power her way through the Wozniacki defence to earn a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory.
Wozniacki has another tough match on her hands on Thursday, as she’ll be pitted against the big serving Petra Kvitova. Kvitova faced Zvonareva on Tuesday, and didn’t seem to encounter any of the problems that Wozniacki faced. The young Czech was dominant in almost every department, and she beat the Russian 6-2, 6-4. A similar display will give her a real chance for this upcoming contest.
Wozniacki beat Kvitova recently in Beijing, and she holds a 3-1 head to head record against her prior to this matchup. Still, Kvitova is an even more formidable opponent than usual when she’s playing indoors, and her sole success against Wozniacki occurred at the highest level (Wimbledon 2010).
No match between this pairing has ever gone into three sets, but it looks like this might just change on Thursday. You can watch and bet on the action from the WTA Championships at bet365
