Local hope Dusan Lajovic is up against Filippo Volandri in the night session tonight.
The success of Novak Djokovic, Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic has sparked a tennis boom in Serbia with no shortage of young players looking to emulate their heroes. Lajovic is another young player earmarked for bigger things who has been making a move up the rankings over the past year.
He had little junior success to speak of but he's racked up futures titles over the past year and already has three to his name in 2011, pushing him up to a career best ranking just inside the top 300.
He's been handed a wildcard for this event for the second successive year. Lajovic certainly did not disgrace himself in 2010, putting up a real fight against Ivo Karlovic before going down 7-6, 6-4.
Volandri enjoys most of his success on the challenger circuit these days. He qualified for the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this month but can no longer mix it with the tennis elite and was crushed 6-2, 6-1 by Marin Cilic.
As far as first round draws go this is a pretty decent one for Lajovic. However Volandri should have too much experience and will probably take this one in two.
