Roger Federer prevailed in an all-Swiss semi-final against Stanislas Wawrinka on Saturday, earning himself a place in the final of his hometown tournament in Basel. After a close first set, the world No. 4 took control of the match, and he eventually left the court with a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory.
Federer will now face Kei Nishikori, who secured a shock 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-0 win against world No. 1 Novak Djokovic. Djokovic was struggling with a shoulder injury, but this should still be regarded as a huge victory for the Japanese youngster.
In a post match interview, Federer said, "He's a guy I've never played against. My focus will be to remember how he plays. He beat Novak in the semis, so he'll have a shot in the final. He has great shots, a quick arm and is a fighter.”
"He was injured a lot and wasn't able to rise in the rankings like he was capable of. But he made the semi-finals in Shanghai and now the final here, so he's taken advantage of his chances."You can watch and bet on the ATP Basel Open live for free at bet365 > live tennis
