Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal lead the market.
Rafael Nadal finally lost a match as he fell at the AEGON Championships to Feliciano Lopez, a player who is perhaps trying to make amends for a poor performance at the French Open. Despite the loss to Lopez, Nadal is still considered a major threat to win the grass court Slam this summer although some sportsbooks are lengthening his price a little. Here are the odds for the top 8 players for Wimbledon which starts on June 21st:
1. Roger Federer +140 (7/5) SportingBet
2. Rafael Nadal +250 (5/2) Stan James
3. Andy Murray +900 (6/1) Bodog
4. Andy Roddick +1400 (14/1) Totesport
5. Robin Soderling +1600 (16/1) Boylesports
6. Novak Djokovic +2000 (20/1) Boylesports
7. Marin Cilic +4000 (40/1) Bodog
8. Tomas Berdych +5000 (50/1) SportingBet
Federer's price promises to shorten soon as he looks great for a title at the Gerry Weber Open with only Lleyton Hewitt a credible threat remaining in the draw. The price of +140 (7/5) may be as good as it gets on the Swiss Maestro as it should only be shortening from here on out until he suffers an upset at the All England Club or until he wins the title outright and markets close.
Based on his play in Halle one might put Federer at EVEN odds to win the 2010 Wimbledon title and so there is a little bit of value in betting +140.
Our recommendation at this point is to pound Federer before his price shortens more while sprinkling Roddick at +1400 with Totesport and Berdych at +5000 with SportingBet. That does represent a change in position for us but Federer has been the only top player to demonstrate top level grass court form in either Halle or London.
Andy Murray is starting to drift as Bodog have put him way out at +900 (9/1). Since backing him to win Wimbledon is part of English culture, fans of Murray should be heading to Bodog soon (MAXIMUMBONUS when you register).
