Albert Montanes will be looking to rediscover his form against Italy’s Alessandro Giannessi in Bucharest today.
Montanes is the eighth seed this week in Bucharest and he’ll be hoping to use this ATP 250 event to shrug off some indifferent recent form ahead of the indoor season. The Spaniard is still ranked 54 in the world but after making the Kitzbuhel final last month, he suffered three straight defeats on the American hard courts.
He returned to his favoured clay at last week’s Szczecin challenger but crashed out in the quarters, looking a little short of fitness.
As a result 21 year old Giannessi may just be in with a chance today. The Italian has shot up the rankings to 201 after reaching no less than six futures finals and he came through the three rounds of qualifying with aplomb at the weekend.
Prediction: Giannessi in three.
