As the footballers would say, it's squeaky bum time at the Olympics. All eight players left in the men's and women's singles draws will know they're just two wins away from accomplishing a lifetime dream and winning a medal. Here's what we can look forward to today:
Novak Djokovic v Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (2nd on Centre: approx 1.30pm)
How is Tsonga still standing ? We thought his chances of Olympic glory were busted after his extraordinary 2nd round clash with Milos Raonic (Tsonga won 25-23 in the third) but he bounced back as fresh a daisy yesterday to dispatch Feli Lopez. Djokovic may prove a step too far but you know Tsonga will throw everything at him.
Roger Federer v John Isner (3rd on Centre: approx 3.30pm)
Roger won't be looking forward to this one. He's been guilty of a few concentration lapses so far at these Olympics and he can't afford any today as Isner is capable of serving him out of the event. He did it in the Davis Cup in February, but to do it onCentre Court, Roger's home turf, would be something else.
Kim Clijsters v Maria Sharapova (4th on Centre: approx 5.30pm)
We didn't give Clijsters any chance heading into the Olympics but she looked impressive in her third round win over Ivanovic. Sharapova hasn't been playing great and is into the last 8 on sheer bloody-mindedness alone. Makes for an enticing match-up. The sentimentalists would love to see Clijsters win a medal in her penultimate tournament, would be a fitting end to a magical career.
