It's been an incredible Olympics for Team GB and Andy Murray was visibly inspired by the exploits of his countrymen as he swept to glory in the gold medal match against Roger Federer. Murray was just 18 when London won the bid for the 2012 Olympics and he will have dreamed many times of winning gold in front of his home fans but he would never have dared imagine that he'd do it in such emphatic style, crushing Federer for the loss of just seven games.
The men's singles also saw the resurgence of Juan Martin Del Potro who beat Novak Djokovic in straight sets to win bronze. It looks like the former US Open champion is well and truly back among the elite.
We ran out of superlatives to describe Serena Williams' displays, winning her third and fourth Olympic gold medals in the women's singles and doubles. With these Olympics being held on the grass of Wimbledon it was always going to take a very special performance to stop her. Few would have imagined just how dominant she'd be - beating Vera Zvonareva, Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova for the loss of just eight games.
Azarenka recovered to beat Maria Kirilenko and claim bronze before teaming up with Max Mirnyi to win gold in a thrilling mixed doubles final against Andy Murray and Laura Robson. It's richly deserved after some of her achievements this season.
And the Bryan brothers put the disappointments of Athens and Beijing behind them as they finally struck gold in the men's doubles, defeating French pair Michael Llodra and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
