Ana Ivanovic and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova were the highest ranked players in their respective teams to step on court on Saturday, but both fell to defeat as the Fed Cup World Group semi-final between Serbia and Russia became deadlocked at 1-1. With so much at stake on Sunday, it will be exciting to see what these two players can do as they try to make amends.

Ivanovic has been resurgent this season, and she’s not too far away from creeping back into the top ten. Still, she was edged out in three sets by Svetlana Kuznetsova in the second singles rubber. Pavlyuchenkova had been up against Jelena Jankovic, who hasn’t been at her best this year. Still, Jankovic built upon some improved recent performances, and saw off the world No. 22 in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Ivanovic will be the favourite to win this contest, given that she holds a 3-0 head to head record against Pavlyuchenkova. There’s a chance that the Russian will up her game in Moscow though, and we could be in for a real nail-biter here.
