Juan Monaco takes on Tomas Berdych in the second singles match of the Argentina-Czech Republic Davis Cup semi-finals at Parque Roca in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Argentina defeated Germany 4-1 in the first round at the Davis Cup before overcoming Croatia 4-1 in the quarter-finals. Czech Republic had no difficulties beating Italy in the opening round and then Sweden 4-1 in the last-eight round, winning by identical 4-1 margins.
Monaco has played only two matches at the Davis Cup this year so far and won both of them. In his first, he brushed aside Germany’s Philipp Petzschner before dropping only two games in his win over Antonio Veic in the quarter-finals.
Berdych has been actively involved in Czech Republic’s Davis Cup campaign so far and has featured in five matches. More importantly, he has won all those matches, including two doubles matches as well.
In terms of head to head, Berdych and Monaco have played each other six times and the Czech Republic player holds a whopping 6-0 record. This includes a five-set win in a Davis Cup tie on 2009 on indoor hard court.
The Berdych v Monaco semi-final match will be the second of the day with the first to begin at 10.45 am local time (1345 hours GMT) on Friday.
