Top seed Roberto Bautista-Agut is the favourite to overcome Josselin Ouanna and reach the Pozoblanco Challenger final.
Bautista-Agut did extremely well to see off former world number five Tommy Robredo in Friday's quarter-finals. The matches have been taking place later in the day due to the punishing daytime heat but even in the evening, the temperatures are nearly 30 degrees.
Bautista-Agut is a bit of a grinder, simply a very solid baseliner and he has none of the fluidity of Robredo at his best. However Robredo is still trying to work his way back after a year out with injury and he was too inconsistent to pull off the win. He recovered from a break down in the deciding set and saved two match points at 4-5 before forcing a tiebreak. Robredo led 5-2 in the breaker and had match point at 6-5 but Bautista-Agut kept forcing him to play one more ball and eventually edged it 9-7 to complete a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(7) victory.
Ouanna completely outplayed Adrian Mannarino in the quarter-finals, thrashing his compatriot 6-3, 6-1. It's strange stuff from Mannarino who was ranked in the top 50 a year ago and you keep thinking he's going to get back to that level and then he suffers a defeat like this.
Ouanna's been serving extremely well this week and if he keeps that up he has a chance in this one but expect the Spaniard to pull through in three sets.
