Paolo Lorenzi will be pleased about his performances this week in the Friuladria Credit Agricole Tennis Cup, as he’s worked his way into the semi-finals without dropping a set. The fourth seed had appeared to be in for a lengthy encounter with fifth seed Simone Bolelli yesterday, but was instead handed a walkover early on in the second set. Lorenzi has been leading 7-5, 1-0.
Lorenzi will now be tasked with taking on hard hitting Romanian Victor Hanescu. Hanescu was ranked No. 26 in the world back in 2009, but fell out of the top hundred due to poor form and a knee injury. At 31-years-old he still possesses a threat with his attacking firepower and ability to work opponents.
These two players last met in 2007, leaving Hanescu with a 1-0 head to head record against the Italian. That particular contest was a one-sided drubbing. Things may be a little different this time around, but the unseeded Hanescu still seems capable of edging the contest. A return to the top hundred could be on the cards for the big Romanian.
