Big serving qualifier Fritz Wolmarans takes on American Greg Ouellette for a place in the Binghampton Challenger semi-finals.
Ranked 510 in the world you wouldn't normally expect to see Wolmarans in a challenger quarter-final but he's made the most of his opportunity this week. The Binghampton surface is quick and bouncy and favours the players who like to take a few risks and go after the ball.
Top seed in qualifying Wolmarans won through both his matches at the weekend without dropping a set before seeing off wildcard Mitchell Krueger 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round. He looked to have come unstuck in round two when he trailed young American Bradley Klahn 5-2 in the opening set.
Klahn had a few set points but got a bit tight and missed some comfortable volleys. Wolmarans spotted his chance and hit back to claim a 7-6(4), 6-3 win.
Ouellette is ranked 358 and like Wolmarans, spends most of his time competing on the futures circuit but with the Binghampton main draw cut stretching pretty low this year, he's taken his chance and he stunned fourth seed and world number 183 Laurynas Grigelis 5-7, 6-0, 6-4 in the first round.
Prediction: Ouellette in three.
