Blaz Kavcic is the top seed in this week’s Feiuladria Credit Agricole Tennis Cup but hasn’t found it particularly easy to make it through to the quarter-finals. He began his campaign with a three set win over Serbia’s Ilija Bozoljac before clinching a 7-5, 7-6(5) victory over Andrey Kuznetsov.
Kavcic stands out as the man to beat in this event, regardless of the fact that his opening matches haven’t been easy. The world No. 69 has been in fine form in Challenger competition this year, and he’s looking for his third Challenger title of the season this week, following successes in Sao Paulo and Furth.
Kavcic will continue his campaign in Cordenons with a quarter-final meeting against Spain’s Daniel Gimeno-Traver. Gimeno-Traver is the seventh seed here and has made it this far without losing a set.
This will be the first competitive meeting between Kavcic and Gimeno-Traver, which clouds pre-match predictions a little. Gimeno-Traver is more than comfortable on red clay, which may give him the upper hand over the Slovenian. That said, on current form it looks like Kavcic will scrape through.
