Britain's Alex Bogdanovic plays Canadian eighth seed Erik Chvojka tonight for a place in the Lexington Challenger final.
Bogdanovic came close to cracking the top 100 at his peak a few years ago so it's not particularly surprising to see the talented left-hander in a challenger semi-final. However it has been quite a turnaround in the past month for Bogdanovic who spent the first half of the year struggling for form leading some to wonder whether this might be his last season on tour.
Dropping down to futures events helped him build up some confidence and he won back to back titles on the green clay earlier this month. He's shown nerves of steel this week to come through a number of extremely tight matches, seeing off Aussie Ben Mitchell 7-6(3), 7-6(3) in the second round before edging out seventh seed James Duckworth in a marathon quarter-final in the intense early afternoon heat and humidity. Bogdanovic nearly made for letting a 4-2 lead slip in the final set but his experience showed in the decisive tiebreak and he came through 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(5).
Chvojka has seen off a couple of American youngsters so far this week, edging out the big serving Austin Krajicek 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the second round before beating Michael McClune 7-5, 6-3 in the last eight.
Prediction: Bogdanovic's run this week has taken him back into the world's top 300 and look for the left-hander to continue his march back up the rankings by reaching the final.
