Djokovic flew into Toronto a couple of days ago and acknowledged how tough it is to go from grass to hard courts in a matter of days.
“Just that movement and the timing of the ball, because it bounces much higher than on the grass, so really trying to work on that," he said on Tuesday. "I practised twice today and I’m going to have a night match tomorrow, so I’m going to try to practise again before that. I’m not expecting myself to be already 100 per cent on the first match, but I will try my best.”
Djokovic starts against Bernard Tomic so it's a potential banana skin for the Serb especially as Tomic tends to save his best for the big matches.
Juan Martin Del Potro also has a tricky opener against Czech veteran Radek Stepanek who stunned Washington champion Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets yesterday. Lots of people are tipping Del Potro for the title this week but we'll have to see how he fares in his first couple of matches before we can properly assess the Argentine's chances.
Andy Murray only arrived in Toronto on Tuesday night and unlike Djokovic, the noises coming out of Murray's mouth are not quite so positive. It will be a big surprise if he goes deep this week and he could even crash out in the second round today against Flavio Cipolla.
