Third seeded Tomas Berdych takes on Serbia’s Viktor Troicki in the second round of the ATP Halle on Wednesday.
Berdych, who had a bye in the first round of the competition, will hope to show the touch he had exhibited in reaching the final of the Wimbledon 2010. Since then, however, he has never reached the semi-final of any Grand Slam tournament and will hope to turn that around.
The third seeded Berdych comes into this warm-up tournament for Wimbledon after being knocked out of the French Open in the fourth round. He went down to Argentine Juan Martin del Potro and will look to ensure that he can erase that memory going into this vital tournament.
Against him will be the fast-improving Troicki, who won a straight-setter against Benjamin Becker in the opening round. Earlier, Troicki had gone down in a tough five-setter in the second round at the French Open and comes into this tournament with a 3-2 win-loss record on grass.
Berdych and Troicki have played each other four times and apart from their first match in 2009, Berdych has won all three. This includes a victory at Halle last year in the quarter-finals.
The Berdych v Troicki match will be the third match at the Centre Court with the first to begin at 11.30 am.
