Rafael Nadal wins French Open 2012

Rafael Nadal won his seventh French Open title by beating Novak Djokovic in the final of the tournament on Monday.

The match, which was stopped due to rain on Sunday with Nadal leading two sets to one, was won by the Spaniard in the fourth set. He defeated Djokovic 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 to win his 11th Grand Slam title. Roger Federer has 16 majors to his name.

Djokovic was gunning to become the first ever since Rod Laver to hold the four Grand Slam titles together but lost the first two sets easily. He came back in the third and had a break in the fourth before the match had to be abandoned on Sunday.

Nadal came back on Monday to break back in the first game of the day after which it went on serve till five games apiece. The second seeded Spaniard held on to make it 6-5 and then had a match point in the 12th game of the set. Djokovic served up a double fault, allowing Nadal his seventh French Open title. 

The Spaniard lost only one set in the entire tournament, while Djokovic had had to battle two successive five-setters going into the semi-finals. Nadal beat David Ferrer while Djokovic overcame Roger Federer in the semi-finals on Friday.
